Welcome to the Winter 2022 Ladder.
This is a points based ladder in which the more you play, the more points you earn, the higher your ranking becomes.

Goal: Play Tennis, Meet People, Have Fun and enjoy this great game!

Guidelines:

Fees are paid to the Ladder Coordinator (Lucy Conklin) via cash, check or venmo.

Ladder Assignment is based on USTA ratings, Top Dog ratings, Tournaments and local knowledge. Please reach out out to Ladder Coordinator (Lucy Conklin) if you are unsure which ladder to sign up for.

Location:all matches should be played at a mutually agreeable location. Facility rules and guidelines must be followed and does not give you special rights to a court.

Balls: Both players MUST bring a can of new balls. If the match is completed/won in straight sets, the winner gets to keep the new can of balls from the loser. Use new balls for a third set, and both players go home with used tennis balls.

Match Length: Court time for all matches should be reserved for two hours, and will be two out of three sets, regular scoring, unless limited court time prevents completion of the match. If court time is limited, please use the rules below for 'Completing a Match.'

Completing a Match: For a two hour court reservation, if the match is not completed after one hour and 45 minutes, the following league rules apply:

A. With 15 minutes remaining, complete the game in progress. If upon completion of this game, a person is ahead by two or more games, they win the set.

B. If one person is ahead by only game, play another game. Upon completion of this game, if the person that was ahead by one game is now ahead by two games - this person wins the set. If upon completion of this game, the games are now tied, play a 12 point tie-break (first to 7, must win by 2) to determine the winner of the set.

C. If the sets are now tied at one set each, play a ten-point tie break (the first to 10 points) to determine the winner of the final set and match.

Ladder Injury: If a player is injured and unable to accept challenges, the player must notify the ladder coordinator (Lucy Conklin) immediately. The ladder will be updated with a note next to the name of the injured player. Players below the injured player will then be able to challenge around the injured player, until they are able to resume to play. It is likely the injured player will move down ladder positions, due to other players winning matches or defending their position, and jumping over the injured player.

Match Results: The match winner is responsible for reporting the score by sending the result of their match to (Lucy Conklin) immediately after the match is played. The ladder will be updated, so players can track the progress of the matches being played.

Ladder End Date: March 6, 2022

• The challenger receives 2 extra points.
• Lower ranked player receives 10 extra points for beating a higher ranked plus points using the following formula: ((Difference in Games of Sets) x (Difference in Ranks)) / 2.
• Tied in rank player received 15 extra points plus the difference in Games won by.
• Higher ranked player receives 15 extra points for beating a lower ranked player plus points for the difference in Games of Sets.
• The loser of any match receives points equaling the number of Games won in all Sets, but never more than 10 points.

• The winner of a match that is played against a player more than 10 positions away will receive the points as if the players are only 10 places apart.
• The point system has been designed to encourage activity by awarding points to both the winner and the loser. The number of points received by either player for a match is rounded up to the nearest whole number. As an example, suppose Ted, ranked 9, challenges and defeats Bill, ranked 5, with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 during week 7 of the ladder. Ted would receive 2 point for challenging, 15 points for the upset, and (5 x 4) / 2 = 10 bonus points for Games won, for a total of 27 points. Bill would receive 1 point for any Games won up to the maximum of 10 points for his loss.
• If there was no recorded Challenge then the player entering the match gets the challenge credit.
