What is The Open League?

The Open League (TOL) is a competitive, team-format tennis league run by players, for players, under one guiding principle: providing open-level competition.

Where and when are the matches?

Spring/Summer/Fall are at Jefferson district park generally starting anywhere from 6-8pm during a weekday (Thursdays most times)
Winter is at East Potomac at whatever time we can secure courts which is generally a firday or a weekend from around 8.30-10pm at night.

Who can play?

We strongly encourage players to be, at a minimum, a high-level NTRP 4.5 (~9.5-10.0 UTR) in order to maintain the competitiveness of the league. The league is co-ed, but we do not currently have dedicated women's or men's lines. Past seasons have featured either graduates or current players from nationally-ranked D1, D2, and D3 schools, some of whom even have professional experience.

Are there any rating caps on the lines?

No. Our goal is to attract the best players in the greater Washington DC area, so none of the lines are rating-capped.

How do you choose lineups?

Team captains consult each other before each match in order to choose lineups that will be evenly-matched and therefore generate the best possible competition.

What happens to my signup money?

The Open League invests 100% of its proceeds back into the league. The vast majority of the signup fees that we collect go toward reserving courts, with the remainder being used for administrative fees, including the TopDog system we use to manage and run the league.
