Mark Your Calendars – The Calcutta Tennis Tournament is Back! Join us for an unforgettable weekend of tennis, competition, and fun with a brand-new format! Dates:
What to Expect: Mixed Doubles Tournament – Teams are paired randomly with a handicap system for balanced play. Every team gets at least two matches but what’s new is the double elimination draw format. In a double elimination tournament, competitors must lose twice before being eliminated. Competitors start in the winner's bracket, and move to the loser's bracket upon losing, where they face off against other competitors who have lost a match. Eventually, the only competitors remaining are the winner's bracket champion, who has not lost a match, and the loser's bracket champion, who has lost one match. The loser’s bracket champion then must defeat the winner’s bracket champion twice in a row to win the tournament, while the winner’s bracket champion needs to only win one match to win the tournament. Live Team Auction – On Friday night, teams will be announced and auctioned off, with none other than Coach Jason returning as our lively auctioneer! Bid on teams, own a piece of the action, or just enjoy the excitement. Food & Fun – Enjoy a delicious dinner at the auction and lunch on Saturday between matches. Who Can Play? This event is open to adult players rated 2.5 and above with match experience. Not playing? You’re still welcome to join the auction and place bids on your favorite teams! Registration & Cost: Limited spots available! Only 16 players per gender, so don’t wait to sign up.
How to Register: Don’t miss out on this thrilling weekend of tennis, strategy, and camaraderie. Register now and get ready for an epic showdown on the courts! Last update: 02/26/25

Q- Who can play on Blackhawk teams including USTA or day leagues?
Tennis and Golf members only. Any membership level below will have to upgrade to be eligible to join a team.
Q- How can I join the USTA and get an official USTA rating?
To join the USTA go to www.usta.com. If you don’t have a rating click on "get rated". You will then answer questions about your playing experience and will be assigned an official USTA rating.
Q- Can I play up on a USTA team?
It is suggested, but not required, that players play at their NTRP rating level. If a player chooses to roster on a higher-level team, it is desirable that he/she consult with the captain before signing up. The lower rated player will be played at the captain’s discretion, but there is no guarantee that the lower rated player will get to play. If a rostered player does not play at all, USTA NorCal can credit them most of the fee paid. Q- How many matches would I play when I sign up for a team? A - As a general rule, any team member playing at his/her USTA rating level should be able to expect to play at least two matches during the season, provided the member is generally available for 50% of both away and home matches, flexible with partners, flexible to playing on line 1, 2 or 3. Winning players, singles players, and those who are more flexible and readily available will naturally play more than others. It is important that captains form lineups objectively and fairly. If the team qualifies for playoffs, players must have played at least two matches to be eligible to play in playoffs or 3 matches if self-rated.

What is DUPR?DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is a global pickleball rating system that provides an accurate assessment of a player’s skill level based on match results. Unlike other rating systems, DUPR adjusts dynamically and considers the strength of your opponents, the closeness of matches, and the outcomes of both singles and doubles games. Key Features of the DUPR System1. Singles and Doubles RatingsPlayers receive separate DUPR ratings for singles and doubles play. Since the strategies and dynamics differ between formats, DUPR tracks them independently. 2. The DUPR Reliability Score
How Reliability Score Impacts Your Rating
3. Rating Decay Due to InactivityDUPR ratings are dynamic and can decay over time if a player is inactive.
The best way to maintain an accurate and reliable rating is to play consistently and compete against players of various skill levels. 4. How to Improve Your DUPR Rating & Reliability Score
Understanding DUPR helps you track your progress, find competitive matches, and see where you stand in the broader pickleball community. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, your DUPR rating will adjust based on performance, making it one of the most accurate and fair rating systems in pickleball. Last update: 03/03/25
